Hey everyone… I’m feeling stuck here. My senior’s school won’t tell us his class rank for college apps, and I thought they had to share that info? Does anyone know what I can do about this in New Jersey?
That’s so annoying! Have you tried talking to someone in the admin office about it?

Yeah, I had to keep asking my school for mine until they finally gave it up. Persistence pays off!
You should definitely check out FERPA! It’s a law that lets parents access certain student records. It might help your case.

What’s FERPA all about? Never heard of it before.
@Ocean
It’s a federal law about student privacy. If you mention it, they might have to comply with your request!
I think making a public records request could work if they’re being uncooperative. Just ask them how to do it.

So, if I go that route, do they have to give me the rank?

Yes, if they have it documented, they can’t just say no!
Good luck at your meeting! Be sure to ask about their reasoning and any policies they have regarding this. It could help your case!
I’ve heard some schools don’t even keep track of class ranks anymore. I hope that’s not the case for you. Let us know how it goes!
