Windows Security: Remediation incomplete

I’ve been having trouble with my computer taking 5-10 minutes to shut down, and I think I found the cause. In Windows Security > Virus & threat protection > Protection History, there are multiple messages that say ‘Remediation incomplete (Severe)’. When I clicked one, it asked if I want to allow Windows Security to make changes, but I didn’t click yes because I’m not sure if it’s safe. I’ve added a screenshot here for context: Imgur: The magic of the Internet.

UPDATE: I checked the Event Viewer, and it seems like this issue is related to a file called DellSupportAssistRemedationService. Do you think it’s a false positive? Here’s another screenshot: Imgur: The magic of the Internet.

It could be a false positive, but I would suggest running a full system scan using a different trusted antivirus tool like Malwarebytes, just to be safe. It could help detect if there’s any actual threat.

I’ll try that, thanks for the suggestion!

You should probably allow Windows Security to make the changes if it’s asking to fix the issue. It’s a trusted system tool, so you should be safe in allowing it.

I wasn’t sure, but I guess it makes sense since it’s from Windows itself. I’ll give it a go!

DellSupportAssistRemedationService is a legitimate service from Dell. It might just be clashing with Windows Defender. Maybe update or reinstall it?

I didn’t think of that. I’ll try updating it first and see if it helps!

If you’re still worried, you can try booting into Safe Mode and running a scan from there. It usually helps deal with persistent issues.

Thanks for the tip! Safe Mode is something I haven’t tried yet.

I had a similar issue with Dell SupportAssist. It kept flagging as a problem but wasn’t really harmful. You might be okay after an update.

That’s good to know, hopefully it’s just an update issue. Thanks!
