Anyone dealt with a manager targeting them... need advice?

I feel like my boss at Boeing is singling me out. I think she’s setting me up for a CAM (Corrective Action Memo) when she gets back from furlough next week. She’s given me bad reviews and took away a project I was working on, giving it to someone else. I’m the oldest on the team, and I feel like it’s partly about my age. Anyone been through something similar?

That sounds rough. Are you sure she’s targeting you because of your age, or could there be other factors?

I think it’s partially because I’m 61. She tends to favor younger team members and has been giving them more work.

Maybe document what’s happening, just in case? It could help if you need to report it later.

If she really is pushing you towards a CAM, maybe you could reach out to HR or file a formal complaint? Although, HR sometimes just protects the company…

Yeah, that’s what worries me. HR isn’t exactly known for siding with employees. I did think about using the ‘speak up’ line but wasn’t sure it applies here.

Could be worth it just to get it on record. Even if it doesn’t go anywhere, you’ll have proof that you raised it.

What’s a CAM exactly? Sorry, not familiar with all the terms…

No worries! CAM stands for Corrective Action Memo. It’s basically a written warning, usually the first step before serious consequences.

Got it, thanks! Sounds stressful to be in that position.

If you’re thinking of reporting age discrimination, you might want to contact the EEOC. They handle discrimination complaints.

Yeah, I’ve been considering it. Just not sure if I should wait until my boss actually files the CAM.

You usually have to wait until there’s some formal action, like the CAM, but checking in with a lawyer could help.

Maybe ask your senior manager for advice on turning things around? If they see your effort, they might back you up.

That’s actually what I’m planning on doing. Hoping the senior manager has some suggestions to smooth things over.

Good luck! Sometimes having that chat can make a difference. Fingers crossed it works out.
