Anyone Else Asked to Repay CERB?

@Lennox
It just says I’m not eligible for that period. I included bank statements showing no income.

Seems like your info might be missing something.

I’m also at a loss. They didn’t explain anything.

@Jin
If it goes to review, look for cases about “lack of transparency.”

@Jin
Request an ATIP. It’ll give you the CRA’s full report on your case.

What specific eligibility criteria are they saying you didn’t meet?

They didn’t specify. Just said I wasn’t eligible for that period in 2020.

Sounds like when admins on this forum suspend you but don’t say why.

How long ago did you send your info? Maybe they haven’t even looked at it yet.

After submitting my info, I got a decision letter pretty quickly. The timeline seems reasonable.

You’ll need to follow up and find out exactly why they think you didn’t qualify.

If you applied for EI around CERB, they might have automatically switched you to CERB. Some people are now being asked to repay CERB even though they applied as laid-off.

I was out for two months and told to pay back one month, which I didn’t have to. It took almost three years to resolve, but I finally got my money back. Good luck.

It feels like a never-ending battle. This was rushed out and caused so much confusion. I triple-checked my eligibility.

@Jin
It’s a mess, but don’t give up!

During those 3 years, were you paying anything, or was it all on hold?

@Alden
They told me not to pay, but it went to collections, so any credits owed to me were held. I had to go through the complaint department to finally get it resolved.

Did you meet the requirement of earning at least $5,000 in the last 12 months or in 2019?

They didn’t ask for that since they’d have my income info from 2019. I made more than $5000.

@Jin
What’s on your 2019 T4 or NOA? If it’s under $5000, that’s an issue.

Yes, it was way over $5000.

Unfortunately, the CRA is stretched thin on experienced agents right now.

When did they first reach out about eligibility? Reviews usually take a while. And did they ask for anything specific?
