Anyone else dealing with employee issues that cost big money?

I’m an employer, and some of my employees really dropped the ball. They didn’t follow through on their work, and I ended up having to refund $60,000 to a client because of it. This situation has left me almost bankrupt. Anyone here had similar experiences?

That’s rough. Were they just not doing the work right, or were they slacking off in other ways?

From what OP said, it sounds like they were coming back late from breaks and stuff like that.

@Lennox
Yeah, exactly. Late returns, not really focused on the job… it was a mess.

Did you have any kind of formal agreements or just verbal expectations? That can make a difference if you need to take action.

Just verbal instructions. Looking back, a formal agreement probably would’ve helped.

Definitely. Written agreements can protect you in situations like this.

Maybe you could get a lawyer to help you see if there’s a way to get some of that money back?

I’ve thought about it. Just not sure where to start, but I might have to go that route.

If they were coming in smelling like weed, that’s definitely unprofessional and could be grounds for disciplinary action.

Yeah, no kidding. Showing up in that condition is a big issue.

@Parker
It was frustrating. Felt like they didn’t take the work seriously at all.

If you’re thinking of legal action, maybe start by talking to someone who knows employment law. They can help guide you.

Good idea, I’ll look into finding an employment lawyer here in Massachusetts.
