I’m dealing with an arbitration case, and the fees are adding up way more than I expected. Got a court reporter bill of $2880 for 16 hours and another invoice from the arbitrator for $36,300 (11 days at $3300 per day!). Originally, I was told costs would be shared 50/50, but that doesn’t seem to be happening. Anyone have experience with high arbitration fees like this?
Yikes, that sounds rough. I thought arbitration was supposed to be cheaper than going to court.

Same! Usually, it’s promoted as more affordable, but once you add up those daily fees, it can get crazy.

That $3300/day rate seems high. Did you check if it matches the arbitrator’s standard fee?
OP mentioned they found the arbitrator’s usual rate is $1900/day, so this charge does look strange.

@Davi
Definitely worth asking why the rate went up. Could be they’re adding extra fees for some reason.
If these fees keep climbing, maybe consider the EEOC? Could be a less costly way to pursue your case if it fits the situation.

Isn’t EEOC mostly for cases involving discrimination? OP, double-check if it applies to you.
@Blaze
Yep, EEOC covers discrimination and unfair treatment. Worth a look if your case involves those issues.
Always get everything in writing! Arbitrators sometimes send bills that don’t match up with initial estimates.

I’m trying to get a full breakdown of charges now. They seem hesitant to explain it all.
Good call on bringing in an attorney! Having one on your side might help make sense of all these fees.

Definitely hoping they can help clear things up. This has been so frustrating.
