Anyone Ever Take a Break from Social Media

Have you ever taken some time off from social media? What was good about it, and what were the hard parts? I’m curious how it changed your friendships and daily life.

I stayed off social media for three weeks almost three years ago. It was mostly to prepare for my TOEFL exam since social media was too distracting. It really helped my mental clarity. Instead of scrolling, I spent time reading or watching movies. It didn’t hurt my friendships either, since my close friends knew they could reach me on WhatsApp. If you’re thinking about it, just do it!

I deleted my personal Facebook and Instagram a few weeks ago. Since then, I’ve read more books, and my friends still text me. Social media can be like junk food, addictive but bad for you.

I took a break. No downsides at all.

I deactivated Instagram a few weeks ago. Feels just like when I quit Facebook years ago: I don’t care what strangers are up to, and I don’t feel watched.

Social media can be great for finding inspiration from other creators. I try to keep my feed positive, but sometimes I need to take a step back and focus on my own work.

I took a full break from social media a few years ago, and it was great. Most recently, I left Twitter, and while I was tempted at first, seeing how bad it had gotten made it easier to stay away.

I don’t have real friends, so taking a break isn’t really for me. I’d be completely alone if I did.

I took a break from social media, and I had so much more time, but I also realized my dog is the only one liking my selfies now.

I’m a creator, so when I took a break from posting, my happiness improved for a month because I was burned out.

Cons: My views and engagement dropped a bit when I came back.

I’ve been on and off IG, and sometimes it did make me feel disconnected from people. I missed knowing where everyone was or what was happening. It was easier to stay in touch when I was on IG. But I also enjoyed not feeling FOMO, and I was more present.

I’ve taken breaks many times, and it feels great. Just hide the apps, turn off notifications, and stay away for a few days. Eventually, you just stop needing them.

It’s amazing. Just turn off notifications.
