I live in a house with two adults, two kids, and four dogs of different sizes—two are fluffy and two have short hair. We have a dog door, and when it rains, the dogs bring mud inside.
Our house is 3000 sq ft, all on one floor, with a small basement. The first floor has a mix of high-pile carpet, hardwood, tile, and one big rug, while the stairs and basement are carpeted with tiles and concrete.
Right now, I use a Shark Navigator Professional NV356E with extra filters. It does a decent job, but I’m searching for something better for the stairs and that has an adjustable-height head for the carpet and rug. I’m looking at the Sebo E3 and D4 models, but I’m unsure about the longer cord and bigger bag of the D4. I’ve heard the bags can smell like dog hair even before they’re full. Plus, I’m not sure which one handles high-pile carpet better.
The E3 and D4 will work the same on carpet since they use the same ET-1 powerhead. Depending on how high the pile is, you might need the extra green ‘soft’ brushroll if the powerhead jams up.
The main differences are the larger bag and longer cord for the D4, plus it has the brushroll switch on the handle, which is a nice feature. I don’t think the E3 has that option yet, except for the pastel colors.
But I get your worry about bag smell. They do have scented balls for the bag, but I think the charcoal filter does a good job.
If you don’t live in an older home where outlets are spaced oddly, the E3 should work great for you.
Now that you mention the brush roll switch, I saw that Sebo US has it, but another shop’s photos and description don’t show it. I’ll check that out closely.
