Best brand of laptops in the modern age?

Asus and Lenovo Good / Dell and HP Junk / Apple, expensive decent

lenovo thinkpads and framework laptops

macbooks are solid but theyre a bit overpriced and are difficult to repair yourself if you’re into tinkering with your own hardware

2018-2024 really isn’t too bad, many people replace them after after 3-4 years.

If labor wasn’t so expensive (and retail wasn’t chasing the customer with new stuff at low prices) it might even be worth having repaired.

Honestly we’re at a point when you can’t really trust brands, because they’re all cutting corners…

ASUS has the single worst warranty in the game. Dont buy. I usually like Lenovo. Avoid HP though. Horrible products and bad customer service

Asus have been good lately

Dell has been manufacturing Alienware gaming rigs for about 10 years; I bought a Dell G7 about 3 years ago which is a hybrid gaming PC, I have no complaints. My prior laptop was an HP Omen gaming rig, no complaints there either. I use Macintosh laptops at work, have no issues with those. I still have an Asus eee from long ago, it still works. I’ve bought ASUS motherboards in the past, I think they’re a good brand. MSI gaming rigs look cool but I’ve never owned one.

HP Elite / Dell latitude / Lenovo Thinkpads

No brand is like that. Some have good models, all have bad models. Most models are just average (for their price range).

All brands have decent laptops as long as they aren’t the retail models (staples,Best Buy etc)

And as long as you do a fresh install of windows when you get it to remove all the bullshit they put on them

Lenovo has some decent high end machines, and their warranty service has been top notch (so long as parts are in stock) for our workstations. Also, upgrading/expanding warranty coverage is super easy, even if they’ve expired recently
They have a grace period where you can re-enroll for another 3 years of support.

i like Acer a lot. been using acer laptops since im in elementary never had a bad time with it.
recently bought nitro 5 pretty happy with it as well

asus hardwares are the toughest. purchased my asus rog in 2019, ive never been this satisfied. this mofo just runs, no bullshit.

On your remark of the built-in battery, it is very hard to find a laptop nowadays that hasn’t got a built-in battery.

On build quality I would say Apple is great. The microsoft Surface laptops are also very well made and easier to repair. As mentioned here by others, Thinkpads (especially the business oriented ones) have very good build quality too.

But in general all brands have a good quality line. It is usually the business versions (HP Elitebook, Lenovo Thinkpad, Asus Probook) or the top consumer line (Dell XPS, Lenovo Yoga Pro, HP Spectre).

Finally the Framebook is build to last, as you can easily replace parts.

Most of them seem fine anymore honestly well minus Dell. They are indeed a trash brand now.

That sucks

Nah they’re pretty good! Just remember to focus on build quality and good specs, and try not to focus so much on the display (better= battery eater anyway), new design (get the tried and true clamshell), or any of that 360 hinge that’s prone to breakage.

@Blake
In other words, Latitude and Precision = good, Inspiron and consumer grade = not good. Get a business grade one on eBay, and go by this motto: “better last year’s best than this year’s mid”. Can’t go wrong!!!
