Can employers access your medical records without permission?

So, I’ve been wondering if it’s even legal for an employer in Texas to ask for your medical records without your OK? My doctors have been acting kind of different lately, and I’m worried they might have shared something with my employer. Thoughts?

Nope, they can’t legally do that. They’d need your permission first.

That’s a relief. I got this email saying they could contact medical providers, but nobody else at work got it.

Even if they made a company policy, they can’t look at your records without you signing something first. It’s illegal.

Exactly, unless it directly affects your job, they have no reason to ask.

Just FYI, even if they tried, your doctor can’t share anything without your consent. It’s protected info.
