So, I’ve been wondering if it’s even legal for an employer in Texas to ask for your medical records without your OK? My doctors have been acting kind of different lately, and I’m worried they might have shared something with my employer. Thoughts?
Nope, they can’t legally do that. They’d need your permission first.

That’s a relief. I got this email saying they could contact medical providers, but nobody else at work got it.
@Vic
Yeah, if nobody else got the email, it’s probably not legit. Just ignore it, tbh.
@Vic
Agreed! Sounds super weird if only you got it. Don’t worry.
Even if they made a company policy, they can’t look at your records without you signing something first. It’s illegal.

Oh okay, so even if they claim it’s policy, they still need my signature?
@Vic
Exactly. No signature, no access. That’s how it works.
Wow, if they’re trying to pull something like that, it’s pretty shady.

Right? It’s weird. Not sure why they’d even want my medical info.

Exactly, unless it directly affects your job, they have no reason to ask.
Just FYI, even if they tried, your doctor can’t share anything without your consent. It’s protected info.

Thanks, that’s really good to hear. I feel better now.
IDK why employers would even try to get into that. It’s illegal without your approval.

Exactly! Just needed to confirm what’s legal and what’s not.

Yep, always double-check. But sounds like they’re overstepping.
