Hey everyone, I’m heading back to work after a short leave for a knee replacement, and my doctor recommended remote work when needed. My job reached out to my doctor asking if I requested that or if the doc did. Is this normal?
Yeah, from what I know, employers can confirm things with your doctor. It’s usually just to verify the recommendation, nothing too deep.

That’s what I was wondering. Sounds like they just want to double-check what the doc said. Thanks!

I didn’t know they could do that without your permission though?
@Rin
As long as it’s only about the accommodations, they don’t need extra permissions. It’s not like they’re asking for your medical records.
It’s legal for them to check if the accommodation was recommended by the doctor. It’s part of the process to confirm everything.

Good to know. My doctor’s office told them it was their recommendation, so it should be fine.
If your doctor sent the paperwork directly to them, they’re just confirming the details. That’s normal for employers to do.

Does it matter if it’s faxed directly? Can they still check with your doctor?
I had a similar thing happen. My employer reached out to my doctor to confirm my work accommodations, and it was all fine. Just routine checks.

That’s good to hear! Seems like it’s all standard practice, so I’m feeling better about it now.
