Can my ex-employer legally give me a bad rep?

I started a new job recently, but I have this feeling my old boss is giving me a bad reference. He might even be showing people a photo of me from back then, which isn’t flattering. Do I have any legal options? Not sure what I can actually do here.

Wow, that’s tough! If he’s really doing that, it’s kinda petty. Have you thought about having a calm talk with him to clear things up?

Honestly, I don’t think he’d listen. He’s got a pretty big ego, if you get what I mean.

If he’s the type with an ego, confronting him could backfire. Maybe keep a record of anything he’s done?

You might have some options legally, OP. What about trying mediation? It’s way less stressful than a court case.

Mediation? Isn’t that something you do once you’re already in a lawsuit?

Not always! Mediation’s more like a neutral meeting where someone helps both sides talk it out. Worth looking into!

Do you actually have any proof he’s giving you a bad rep? Just wondering, ‘cause that might be key if you go legal.

That’s the problem… no real proof, just a feeling he’s talking behind my back.

Maybe start keeping a record of anything you hear? Could help if you do decide to go legal later.

If you’ve been out for six months, check if you’re still within the time limit to take action. There might be a deadline.

Good call, didn’t think about that. I should definitely check the time limits.

Yeah, it’s called a ‘statute of limitations’ – kinda like an expiration date for legal stuff. Worth checking!

If you’re thinking of taking action, maybe find a lawyer who works on a ‘contingency fee’? They only get paid if you win.

That sounds fair, actually. At least I wouldn’t be out a bunch of cash upfront.

Contingency fees are great if you’re tight on money! Just make sure the lawyer’s reputable.
