Does General Motors pay for retirees' spouse funeral expenses?

My dad worked for GM and recently passed away. I’m trying to figure out if they cover funeral and burial costs for spouses. Does anyone know?

No, unfortunately, GM doesn’t pay for that. But if your mom was listed as a beneficiary on his life insurance, that could cover it. Have you checked with GM’s pension plan?

Yeah, you can go to MetLife’s website or call the GM Benefits & Service Center. They should help you figure out what the plan covers.

I had to deal with this recently too. GM didn’t cover my mom’s funeral either, but we used the life insurance she had through the pension. Maybe check if your dad had something similar?

Yeah, it was all there. You just log in and check the coverage details. It’s pretty straightforward.

Same here, my dad passed and we found out too late that the pension plan had life insurance. Make sure to double-check everything on MetLife’s site.

FYI, the GM Benefits & Service Center should be able to help if you get stuck on the website. They were really helpful when I called them.
