Drivers And how to manually update?

I need some help finding drivers. My antivirus did its monthly scan and found a few drivers that need updating. I checked my device manager and clicked ‘Update Driver,’ but it said I have the latest driver, which isn’t true since the current driver is from 2020. I’d like to know how to find and update them manually. I tried looking in C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore, but it was super confusing and I couldn’t figure out what I was looking for. I’m not very experienced with this stuff, so any help would be appreciated!

First off, you might want to remove that antivirus. Third-party ones can be scams and they often check for driver updates unnecessarily. If everything runs fine, you don’t need to update drivers.

I don’t mean to be rude, but I disagree. I’ve had connection issues and wanted to see if updating the drivers could help. The monthly scan just popped up, so I’m not doing this for no reason. Plus, I actually went into my device manager and found the date there. :hugs:

You can find drivers on the manufacturer’s website. The DriverStore folder only has what you’ve already installed. The Windows update check only looks for what’s submitted to Windows Update.

I just did this for my HP laptop. I Googled ‘HP driver update’ and it took me to their site. I entered my laptop’s serial number, and it showed all the latest drivers to download. I saved the driver files to a folder and installed them one by one. Hope this helps!

I built my computer with my dad, so I’ll need to find all the individual component websites for their drivers. I thought they might update automatically, but I guess not? Thanks for the tips!
