GPU Coil Whine When Moving Mouse

My GPU has recently started making a bizarre staticy whining noise when moving my mouse, scrolling, or making any visual changes on my screen. It’s particularly bad when using Photoshop; if I zoom in, move something, or just make any visual change, there’s a hiss as long as my mouse moves, and then it stops. I don’t really notice it when gaming or when the GPU is under heavy load, strangely enough. This has gotten worse recently to the point where it’s fundamentally distracting.

I have an AMD 6950 XT and a very good 900-watt power supply. Is there anything I can do about this? I see a lot of posts about coil whine being something that just happens, but this seems over the top.

Try another USB port; maybe the shielding is bad and bleeding current. Or something else bizarre. Who knows!

Just for reference, are you sure it’s coil whine from the hardware inside the case and not your speakers/headphones picking up electrical noise? If it’s your audio device, using an external USB audio device like a cheap Behringer UCA202 can help. If it’s coil whine, there’s no guaranteed fix. Some suggest undervolting your GPU to see if it makes a difference.

Happens to me also.
