Hey everyone, sorry to bother you today, but I just got a notification from my Gmail this morning saying that a strange email was added to my Facebook account. I immediately removed it and secured both my Facebook and email accounts, but I’m not super tech-savvy. I want to check if my phone, which is an Android, or my Dell laptop is hacked or not. Any advice would really help.
If it was a legit email from Facebook, definitely take it seriously. It might be a hassle, but sign out of every connected device on your accounts. Change your passwords and back up anything important. Then, scan your files for viruses and maybe upload them to cloud storage. A factory reset could be a safe route, though it’s a pain.
That sounds like a lot of work but probably worth it if you feel something’s off. Just make sure to save everything important first.
You might want to try the Malwarebytes app to scan your phone. If it finds anything, back up your files and follow the steps the other person mentioned.
Thanks for the tip. I’ll definitely try that out and see what it finds.
Honestly, if your phone is hacked, you probably wouldn’t even know it. If you’re aware of it, it’s more likely you’re just dealing with some malware from downloading something sketchy.
Yeah, that makes sense. Sometimes it’s just a matter of being cautious with downloads and links.
So what should I do if I suspect malware? Just run a virus scan?
That’s a start, but if you think it’s serious, wiping everything and reinstalling the OS might be the safest bet.
Anyone else feel like it’s hard to know for sure if your laptop is hacked? I mean, there are so many ways it could happen.
Exactly, it’s confusing. I guess just being cautious and checking regularly is key.
If you’re really worried, just reset everything. It might be a hassle, but it’s way safer in the long run. And don’t forget to change your passwords too.
Good advice. I’ll start with a scan and see where that takes me.
