Hi folks, I’m in a bit of a bind trying to finish up my income tax return. I can’t seem to find my SSA-1099 for 2023. I really need the info from Box 3 and Box 5. Anyone know how I can access it online?
Have you tried logging into your online Social Security account? It might be there.

How do I even access my online SS account?

Just visit ssa.gov and look for ‘my Social Security’. You’ll need your SSN and some personal info to create the account.
If the online route doesn’t work for you, you can request a replacement SSA-1099 via phone. Just a heads-up, it might take some time to receive it.

What number do I call to get that?
I totally get your struggle. I lost mine last year, and it was such a hassle to get it sorted out.

Yeah, it’s the worst. I felt so confused without it… haha.
When I asked for a replacement last year, it took forever! Definitely try to get it online if you can.
What’s the deal with Box 3 and Box 5? What do those numbers mean?

Box 3 shows the total benefits you received, and Box 5 shows the net amount. These are crucial for figuring out if your benefits are taxable.
