Hey everyone, I’m just starting out with FPV drones! I found a pretty affordable quad kit, and I’m also planning to get the RadioMaster TX16S.
What do you guys think?
Is this setup good for a beginner?
Any parts you’d change or leave out?
That’s a solid choice, and having a spare frame is smart.
With colder weather coming, though, the 85 might be a bit big if you’re flying indoors. If you’re sticking to indoor flights, the Meteor 75 or 65 could be better options. I use a 65 for racing indoors, but it struggles in windy outdoor conditions.
@Sam
Thanks! I’m planning to fly mostly outdoors. Your advice really helps .
@Sam
I just saw the WhoopFly16 FPV kit, and it’s cheaper. What do you think about it? Is it a better option?

Haven’t seen one in person, but looks like it’s a 1S 75mm. Just from looking, I’d be a bit worried about the airflow with that cowling shape. It might affect both aerodynamics and cooling.
@Sam
Yeah, it seems like a decent choice because it includes good quality goggles and a radio.
If you’re mostly flying outdoors, consider EV800D goggles (watch out for fakes), or if you have a bit more to spend, the Cobra SD has a better receiver. I swapped my Betafpv VR03 goggles for EV800D, and the reception has noticeably improved, especially around concrete and trees.
If your kit only has one battery, getting a couple more could be helpful. I fly with three, and it’s enough for me. Also, you might want to add a small beeper on your drone if you’re flying in grassy areas. It’ll help you find it if it goes down.
@Kai
Thanks for the tips .
Depends on your battery setup. For 1S, go with the Vifly Whoopstor 3. For 2S, Vifly Toothstor. For up to 6S, consider the HOTA T6 or D6 Pro chargers.
I’d recommend getting the VR03 goggles over the VR02. The VR03 can record your flight.
Your setup looks pretty good! You could think about upgrading the goggles later if you want. Just don’t skip on a good battery charger—don’t go for a cheap one since batteries can be dangerous.

Thanks for the advice
You might want more batteries, extra props, and maybe the RadioMaster if you need a good radio.

It’s a solid choice, but if you’re on a budget, the RadioMaster Pocket is about half the price. Secondhand ones can also work well.
@Kai
Good point, thanks for the suggestion.
@Kai
I also have a Mavic 3 radio on hand. That’s not compatible with this setup, right?

Correct, it won’t work because it’s DJI-specific.
Don’t order directly from Betafpv’s website—it might take around 6 weeks to arrive.
Go with the VR03 goggles.
