I adopted a Pom Chi mix from a rescue about 4 months ago. I had been feeding her TFD mixed with Merrick (which I like), but I noticed it felt greasy when I touched it, even after washing my hands. Started reading reviews here and found concerns about the high fat content and risks of pancreatitis. So, I decided to stop using it and got rid of the rest in my freezer. Really grateful for the info from people here!
Yeah, probably a good call. I have three dogs, and all of them developed pancreatitis after starting Farmers Dog. One of my dogs, unfortunately, didn’t make it because his kidneys were too damaged. His brother now has kidney disease, and my Morkie has elevated liver levels. All of this started after switching to Farmers Dog.
@Sidney
Oh no, I’m so sorry about your dog who didn’t make it. I hope the other two get better soon. Thank you for sharing. TFD should really be taken off the market if it’s causing these issues.
@Sidney
How long were they eating Farmers Dog before they started showing signs of pancreatitis?
It’s being mass-produced now, and I think the quality control has really gone downhill! If someone wants to feed fresh food, they should consider making it at home. Also, no need to shame kibble and wet food—there are some amazing options out there. Dogs lived long, healthy lives way before Farmers Dog existed!
@Mica
Couldn’t agree more. Thanks for saying that!
Which meat mixes were you feeding? I had a similar issue with the beef and pork. One of my dogs refuses to eat Farmers Dog now, and I’m thinking of switching my other dog too. Considering going back to homemade food with Balance It vitamins. So sorry to hear about everyone’s dogs getting sick.
@Cary
My dog loves her homemade food with Balance It! Works so well for us.
@Cary
Do it! It’s worth the switch.
A friend of mine has a dog with pancreas issues at only 2 years old and now has to be on a vegan diet. I wonder if they realize their ‘boutique’ food might be the reason.
