My son has an IEP, but his school keeps sending him home due to “emergency removals” without the right paperwork. His behavior is getting worse, and I’m really thinking it’s time to get him out of Lynn public schools. Anyone know what steps I can take here?
That’s rough. If they’re not doing the paperwork, they’re probably not following proper IEP protocol either.

Yeah, exactly… feels like they’re just skipping steps. I don’t even know if they’re documenting it.

Maybe consider sending a written demand? Schools sometimes respond better when it’s official.
If they’re ignoring the IEP, it could help to involve an advocate or lawyer. Sometimes that pushes them to take it seriously.

I hadn’t thought about an advocate. Could be worth looking into… thanks!
You could reach out to your state’s education department. They can investigate schools that don’t follow IEPs.

Good idea! Might help if the school sees that I’m serious about this.
Definitely keep a record of every time they send him home. That way, if you need to file a complaint, you have proof.

Keeping track of each incident can really make a difference if it escalates.
They’re legally obligated to follow the IEP, so not doing so could be grounds for action. Don’t let them ignore it!

Thanks! I’ll definitely push back harder on this.
