So I’ve had my HP Omen 30L for like 2-3 years now and have never received an SSD firmware update. The SSD is a WDC PC SN530 SDBPNPZ-1T00-1006 1024.2 GB. I tried looking it up on the HP support page by entering my serial number, but all I get are firmware updates for other SSD models, like the Western Digital SN740 or Samsung PM9A1. When I check Western Digital’s website, it says my SSD is up to date, but I read somewhere that since it’s an HP OEM product, it might not be supported. So… am I missing out on updates or should I just leave it since everything’s working fine? My friends have had a couple of SSD updates, so now I’m a little confused.
Honestly, if you’re not having issues, you’re probably fine. Sometimes OEM versions of SSDs don’t get firmware updates as regularly as retail versions. If WD says you’re up to date, it’s likely good to go.
Good point. I guess I just got paranoid after my friends mentioned their SSD updates, but I haven’t had any problems, so maybe I’m overthinking it.
Yeah, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. Firmware updates usually fix specific bugs or improve compatibility, but if your drive is working smoothly, there’s probably no need to worry.
It’s normal for HP’s OEM hardware to get fewer updates than retail versions. I had the same issue with an HP SSD a while back. If you don’t notice any performance problems, you’re probably in the clear.
Yeah, no performance issues here. Just thought maybe I was missing something. Thanks for the reassurance!
I’ve got the same drive, and I haven’t seen any updates either. I think it’s just an HP thing. Their support is hit or miss, lol. You can always check WD’s dashboard software if you’re really worried, but otherwise, it’s probably good.
Glad to know I’m not the only one! I’ll check out WD’s dashboard, but I think I’ll just leave it as is if it says everything’s fine.
Honestly, SSD firmware updates aren’t always necessary unless you’re experiencing problems. If your system runs smoothly, I wouldn’t stress too much about it.
FWIW, I’ve had an HP SSD before and never got an update. It ran fine for years. Sometimes these OEM drives just don’t get the same love from the manufacturers, but that doesn’t mean they’re outdated or broken.
