I was surprised by his actions. Our dog was continually chewing and licking his paw, which was causing irritation. After removing the sock and elastic band, I noticed that the paw was noticeably swollen from being tied so tightly (for apparently six hours).
To prevent further chewing, I put a cone on his head. Will the swelling go down on its own? He’s still walking fine and playing with his toys, but he really doesn’t like the cone!
Unless advised by a veterinarian, refrain from covering your pet’s paws with socks. Their paws play a crucial role in regulating body temperature and require adequate air circulation.
Pups should never be left unattended for extended periods of time because they sweat through their paws. It should be alright if your boy is still energetic and not sluggish, but in these situations, a cone is usually the best option.
