Which one is the best for your health?
Just a heads-up to everyone, let’s keep this conversation based on facts and science rather than personal opinions. Please try to back up your points with credible sources and avoid any sort of hostility. Let’s make this space helpful for everyone and report anything negative!
Whole grain or sourdough are good options. Try to pick bread with fewer ingredients for a healthier choice.
Is it okay if I eat 2 slices of whole grain bread every day?
That’s what I do! I like Dave’s Killer Bread, especially the thin-sliced ‘Good Seed’ variety from Costco. Two slices are around 140 calories, with good fiber and a little protein.
Dave’s is great, but I personally prefer Ezekiel bread. I think it might be even healthier.
Be careful with whole grain bread if you have IBS or kidney stones. Healthy food isn’t the same for everyone, and bread with seeds can cause problems for some people. Nutrition depends on individual needs.
Whole grain sourdough, especially if made with locally grown wheat, is what I go for.
Sprouted grain bread is the healthiest, not whole grain. It’s a more complex carb.
Sourdough is great, but a lot of the ones in stores aren’t real sourdough. Check the label to see if they use a sourdough starter. I found that out from the guy who stocks the bread at my local store.
What makes sourdough good for you? I don’t really know much about its benefits.
For me, I’m older and sensitive to gluten. Sourdough helps with the issues I have with regular wheat, like constipation and arthritis flare-ups. I hadn’t eaten bread for 6 years until I found I could tolerate sourdough.
None of them are universally healthy. It really depends on what your body needs.
Ezekiel Bread.
Surprised it took so long for someone to mention this! Ezekiel bread is the best with clean ingredients. Upvote for sure.
What’s the difference between milk bread and white bread? Does the taste change too?
Milk bread is different. It’s chewier and has a distinct taste, plus it can get a bit gummy. If you live near an Asian market or bakery, they usually have it. It’s kind of like the fluffier cousin of white bread but probably just as processed.
I just saw them labeled differently at the store, not sure what the difference is.
Same here! It got me curious too, haha.
Milk bread has lots of eggs and butter, making it super fluffy and rich. I love it, but it’s definitely not the healthiest.
