Why am I getting huge ping spikes after switching to new Wi-Fi?

My family just switched to Sky this morning, and since the technician changed everything, I’m facing issues. I usually had a ping of around 20, but now it’s consistently at 45, and every 10 seconds, it spikes to 300 ping. I can’t even play games on my PC anymore. What can I do about this? This upgrade was supposed to improve things!

That sounds frustrating! First, make sure your PC is connected directly to the router via an Ethernet cable. Sometimes Wi-Fi connections can be unstable. If you’re already using a wired connection, try restarting the router.

I’m currently using Wi-Fi, but I’ll try a wired connection and see if that makes a difference. Thanks!

Check if there are any devices on your network that could be using a lot of bandwidth. Sometimes, background updates or streaming can cause ping spikes. You might also want to access the router settings and see if Quality of Service (QoS) is enabled to prioritize gaming traffic.

I haven’t checked that yet. I’ll take a look at the devices connected and the QoS settings. Thanks for the tip!

Sometimes a new router can need some adjustments. Check if the firmware is up to date. Also, try changing the Wi-Fi channel in the router settings. There might be interference from other networks in your area.

Good point! I’ll see if there’s a firmware update available and try changing the channel.
