Why does the school board want to put my son in an alternative school?

I followed the advice and contacted the school board, but they suggested enrolling my son in an alternative school. They said he wouldn’t be able to take AP classes or receive the same education as regular high school students. On top of that, my son was bullied, even by a teacher who told him to kill himself. His life was threatened, and now they’re asking him to sacrifice his education. He’s mentally disabled, a 504 student, and has missed over 15 days of school. Why is this the solution they’re offering?

This is insane! The school board should be supporting your son, not pushing him out. I think talking to a lawyer could help, they might be able to get them to reconsider.

I totally agree, DEF. A lawyer would probably help push the issue forward, but I know it can be expensive. Are there any affordable options out there?

@Shai
Yeah, I’ve thought about it. But the lawyer fees are so high—$350 an hour. It’s frustrating when all I want is a safe environment for my son. :sweat:

This is heartbreaking. Have you tried contacting anyone higher up in the education system, like a state official? Maybe they can offer some help or a different perspective.

I’ve tried, but it feels like no one really listens. They just keep pushing the alternative school idea. I’m getting nowhere with it.

I know this situation is tough. If you can, I’d say go for the lawyer. Even if it’s expensive, it might be the best option to make sure your son gets treated fairly.

Yeah, I’m considering it, but it just feels like a lot to take on financially right now. This shouldn’t be so hard.

Have you looked into any advocacy organizations that offer free legal services? Sometimes they can step in for situations like this.

I’ve been searching, but I haven’t found anything yet. It’s hard to know where to start. Do you have any suggestions?

I’m really sorry you’re going through this. It sounds like a terrible situation. If you need any advice or help finding resources, feel free to reach out.

Thanks, XYZ. I appreciate the support. It’s just really tough seeing my son struggle through all this.
